Restaurant Foong Yet (Kepong) 风月海鲜饭店 is a treasured Chinese dining destination nestled in the bustling neighborhood of Taman Sri Bintang, Kuala Lumpur. Specializing in traditional chu char-style Chinese cuisine, this family-run restaurant has proudly served locals and visitors alike since 2005, carrying forward a legacy that spans over 70 years in delivering authentic, flavorful dishes.
Step inside, and you are greeted by a warm and welcoming atmosphere reminiscent of classic dai chow eateries—lively yet comfortable, encouraging long conversations over hearty meals. The extensive menu offers something for every palate, but the real stars are the seafood and signature chu char dishes that bring the freshest catches and boldest flavors to your plate.
The crab here is an absolute must-try, celebrated by many patrons for its fresh, robust taste and perfectly cooked texture that melts in your mouth. Equally enticing is the Nyonya-style Golden Pomfret, a dish brimming with a rich, tangy sauce that balances sweet and savory notes, leaving a lingering satisfaction long after the last bite. For meat lovers, the Guinness Pork Ribs deliver tender, sticky goodness with a subtly sweet depth that pairs beautifully with steamed rice.
Other highlights include the scallop chicken, which presents a unique twist with its delicate, succulent bites, and the mantis shrimp—crispy on the outside, juicy within. Even simpler dishes like stir-fried fish slices with ginger and spring onions, or tofu with pickled radish and minced meat, showcase the kitchen’s ability to elevate humble ingredients to memorable experiences.
What makes Restaurant Foong Yet stand out is its unwavering commitment to quality amid a wide variety of choices. While not every dish may resonate perfectly with every diner, the consistency of delivering above-average, appetizing flavors shines through and invites repeat visits. Decent appetising dishes. Tasty. Delicious. And reasonable. This combination makes up for a welcoming invitation to visit over and over again. No restaurant is ever super perfect. Not all the dishes will meet everyone's expectations. Not every dish will please everyone. But offering a majority of dishes that whets your appetite in my opinion comes near. I will certainly settle for that and be glad.

We've been regular patrons of Foong Yet for quite a number of years, and it's about time we share our thoughts. In terms of food quality, this place consistently delivers above-average dishes. Some items on the menu are particularly tasty, while others might not hit the same mark — but that really depends on what you order. The menu itself is extensive, with plenty of choices to satisfy different preferences. For us, the highlight has always been the frog dish. Whether it’s Steam Frog with Galic & Ginger, Kung Pao Frog, or Stir Fried Frog with Scallion, they’re always well-prepared and full of flavor. The prawn dishes too are also commendable — there’s a good variety of cooking styles, and most of the ones we’ve tried have been delicious. We’re also fans of the crab dishes, particularly the Black Pepper Crab, Salted Egg Crab, Kum Heong Crab, are worth trying if you're up for a treat. One important note for new diners is that some dishes can be on the pricier side. Fish and crab dishes, in particular, can cost around MYR80-MYR100 for fish and MYR180-MYR250 for a two-person meal. However, if you stick with more standard fare like vegetables, chicken, pork, or prawns, a decent three-dish meal plus drinks for two should fall in the MYR80-MYR100. It’s not the cheapest spot around, but also not overly expensive — quite typical for a restaurant of this style in a Kepong area. Do take note: the restaurant can get very crowded, especially at night and on weekends. Whether it’s a weekday or weekend, it tends to fill up fast, so it’s best to arrive early if you want to avoid a long wait. All in all, we highly recommend Foong Yet to those looking for a satisfying Chinese meal in the area. Just come prepared for a crowd — and maybe a little splurge if you're in the mood for seafood.

A Must-Try ‘Dai Chow’ Spot in Kepong! This family-run chu char restaurant or more commonly known as ‘dai chow’ in Kuala Lumpur has been around for 70 years, with this Kepong branch serving up delicious seafood since 2005. No wonder it’s a local favourite! Some of the standout dishes we tried: Nyonya-Style Golden Pomfret – rich, tangy, and full of flavour Guinness Pork Ribs – tender, sticky, and oh-so-satisfying Kampung Steamed Chicken – simple yet packed with natural goodness With such a wide selection, we couldn’t try everything in one go—guess that’s a good excuse to come back for more!

I recently dined at this restaurant (Sri Bintang branch). Located in a busy shophouse area, parking is a bit difficult, but the prices are reasonable and the staff are friendly. The scallop chicken was quite unique and very good. The mantis shrimp, pig's trotters, and oyster omelet were all delicious, but the curry fish head was slightly less impressive. The shrimp omelet was tasty, the homemade minced meat tofu was also good, the Guinness spare ribs were flavorful, and the sweet and sour pork was decent. The stir-fried lettuce with garlic had a nice wok hei (wok aroma). The food came out quickly; you didn't have to wait too long. Overall, it was a good dining experience.

Tried: 1. Stir fried fish slices with ginger and spring onions. Not bad. Average at its best 2. Four heavenly kings - simple stir fried as my girl has very low spice tolerance. Surprisingly , good , even without the sambal belachan 3. Tofu with pickled radish and minced meat. Another simple dish made good
